Sponsored Projects

We initiate projects and work with partners to produce challenges around specific issues. We do this because we believe Social Production is ideally used to solve tough problems. If you are interested in any of these projects please contact us.

Current projects:

$300 House

The goal is to design, build, and deploy a simple dwelling which keeps a family safe from the weather, allows them to sleep at night, and gives them a little bit of dignity. We're bringing together three sets of players - the residents of the $300 House, thedesigners of the house, and the implementers - the organizations (private and public) who will build the "change we want to see." BetaTraffic: Are We There Yet?

We’re going to find and test new ways to eliminate traffic congestion. Urban planners, designers, and fellow commuters are coming together to discuss the problem and develop solutions. We’re looking for global partners to help make this a reality. For more information, have a look at the background presentation.

re:Brick

We are building a LEGO recycling program - which will provide needy schools complete LEGO sets. This pilot program is planned to roll-out across the country. We are looking for support (and LEGO!).

LifeEdited 2: Off-Grid House

We started with designing an ultra-low footprint New York City apartment, now we're moving to Hawaii. The next challenge in the LifeEdited series is to design a low-footprint, completely off-grid house on Maui, taking into consideration the ecosystem on the land around the house and how we can encourage biodiversity. The first LifeEdited challenge sparked discussion about urban living, the second will examine our impact on the environment around us.

LifeEdited 3: Transforming Furniture

Continuing in the LifeEdited series, we're looking to create the tools to make it easier for everyone to make the transition to a low-footprint living space. By designing a line of transforming furniture, we'll put efficient, small-space design within the reach of a larger demographic. The first LifeEdited challenge started the discussion about low-footprint urban living, this one will let more people experience it for themselves.
